Are you looking for a few ideas and activities for these last days of Lent? The next nine days I will offer you nine different ways you can teach and observe Lent with your children and prepare for Easter.
Tomorrow is the First Friday and the next to the last Friday in Lent. Next week is Holy Week.
The Nine First Fridays. This devotion is a novena of Fridays dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Each month for nine months you attend Mass and receive Holy Communion on the first Friday. The Sacred Heart of Jesus promises that He will grant all persons who do this the grace of final penitence and they will receive the last sacraments. Jesus' Heart will have a special place for them at the end of his or her life. This is a beautiful devotion and one every parent could teach their child.
Right now we are not able to go to Mass and receive Holy Communion because of the corona virus, but we are able to say a prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and show Him our love on the First Friday of April. Lent is a grace-filled opportunity to develop the love for the Sacred Heart of Jesus in your child. This is one of my favorite pictures of the Sacred Heart. I have included a prayer that you can say with your children or you can make up your own. Jesus loves children.
Mark 10:13-16
And they were bringing children to Him so that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, "Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."
A Short Prayer to the Sacred Heart
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I love you. Thank you for loving me and for loving my family and my friends. Please help those that are sick to get better. Amen
