A Saint Nicholas Board Book for Toddlers

Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of children, is one of our very favorite family saints. We have celebrated his feast day, December 6, with parties, games, and treats over the years.

Here is a colorful and fun board book for your little ones about Saint Nicholas. Written by Amanda Lauer and published by Paraclete Press, there is rhyming verse to keep your little ones' attention, and enough of the story of the saint to honor his virtues.

The illustrations by Julie Seal are charming and sure to delight both child and reader. They tell the story in pictures that complement the verse and the spirit of generosity that Saint Nicholas exemplifies. This board book makes a great Saint Nicholas Feast Day gift or stocking stuffer.

For families who have older children or are not familiar with the story of Saint Nicholas, I recommend William Bennett's The True Saint Nicholas: Why He Matters to Christmas. For Saint Nicholas treats whose historical roots can be found in Dutch homes, Celebrating Advent and Christmas with Children by Colleen Rooney, the chapter on St. Nicholas provides a number of recipes. All these titles can be found on Amazon and other publishers. Wishing you an early Happy Feast of St. Nicholas!
